Southwestern Industrial Contractors and Riggers, Inc. (originally Southwestern Fuel and Feed Company), was founded in 1920. The company's original business was hauling coal to homes and business in the El Paso, Texas area. The company also had a contract with the Fort Bliss military installation, to haul feed for the cavalry horses. It wasn't to long before the horses were put out to pasture and replaced by motorized vehicles. As technology improved, coal was replaced by natural gas. It was during this time that the company aggressively shifted gears to take advantage of changing markets. Over time and several name changes, the company's business evolved into providing heavy hauling, rigging and erecting services for the military, mining and commercial clients. One of our more noteworthy equipment moves, involved the transporting of the first electric generating plants, to a Federal Government site in northern New Mexico. This equipment was instrumental in the development of the first atomic bomb. |

During the 1960's, the company left its imprint throughout the Southwest. The company played a major role in the rigging, erecting, and construction of many well known institutional, commercial, and industrial facilities in the region. To accent its new direction, the company was renamed, yet again in 1968, to its current name under which it continues operation, Southwestern Industrial Contractors and Riggers, Inc. Southwestern, borrowing from it's past, continues to evolve with the changing times. Most notably, the company became international in scope. In 1993, the company formed a wholly owned subsidiary in Mexico, allowing it to do business throughout the country. Southwestern now operates offices in Juarez, and Monterrey, Mexico, in addition to their corporate offices in El Paso, Texas, USA. The City of Chihuahua, Mexico claims that a recent project rates recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records. That project involved the erection of the world's tallest flagpole. Erected in a park two hundred miles south of the Texas-Mexico border, this 350-foot pole weighed 236,000 pounds. The erection required the use of the company's two 165-ton truck cranes, with a 60-ton hydraulic tailing crane. Now into our fourth generation of the founders family, Southwestern Industrial Contractors and Riggers expanded operations include major plant relocations and installations. That combined with our other services, makes Southwestern a full service operation. From our illustrious past to our future of industry, we continue to service the commercial-industrial construction sector worldwide. |
